Labiaplasty is a urogenital surgery that changes the size of the small lips of the vagina (labia minora) - the folds of skin on both sides of the vaginal opening.

This procedure is not performed on girls under the age of 18, because the genitals continue to develop after puberty into early adulthood.

A number of women want labiaplasty for aesthetic reasons because they don't like the way their labia minora look. You must know that it is completely normal for there to be visible skin folds at the opening of the vagina.

What should you think about before reaching for labiaplasty?
If you are considering labiaplasty, discuss it with a genital surgeon first, there may be a reason why the operation is not suitable for you.

Labiaplasty is an irreversible procedure, after which the external appearance of your vagina will never be the same as before the operation. It involves shortening or reshaping the labia. Unwanted tissue is removed with a scalpel or laser and the edges are joined with fine, dissolvable sutures.

Labiaplasty is usually performed under local anesthesia with analgosedation, but if necessary, it can also be performed under general anesthesia.

The operation lasts about 60 minutes.

The hospital stay is a few hours after the intervention.

Postoperative monitoring with dressing is performed for two days.

Sexual intercourse is not recommended for 4 to 6 weeks after surgery.

Heavy physical exercise is not recommended for 6 weeks after surgery.

Complete healing after which no scars are visible is about 6 to 8 weeks.
