THE MAIN TYPES OF LASER CORRECTION.

As a practicing eye surgeon, I frequently receive inquiries regarding the various types of laser corrective procedures. Therefore, I thought it would be beneficial to share some valuable knowledge and insights on this topic with all of you.

1️⃣ LASIK.
Flap procedure involving the lifting of the outer corneal layer to reshape the tissue beneath. The most widely favoured laser correction procedure in current times.
Advantages include its remarkably straightforward rehabilitation process, with individuals often resuming normal activities as early as the following day.

2️⃣ PRK (Photorefractive Keratectomy).
Surface removal of corneal tissue. This technique, although age-old, remains pertinent and continues to be employed today.
Advantages include its suitability for individuals with thin corneas, as alternative methods might not be suitable for them.
However, drawbacks include a recovery period lasting 3-5 days, necessary for the healing of the laser-treated area. During this time, discomfort, tearing, and sensitivity to light may be experienced.

3️⃣ SMILE (Small Incision Lenticule Extraction).
Minimally invasive laser eye surgery involving the extraction of a lenticule. This technology emerged fairly recently. The foremost advantage lies in its quick recovery time.

Each type of laser correction has its own benefits and considerations, so it's important to consult with a qualified eye surgeon to determine the best option for your specific needs.
